- you enjoy exploring rural areas, getting acquainted with the locals and share a traditional lunch with them.

Here is how your program will look like:

Vagabond ski in TransylvaniaYou’re invited to enjoy winter at its best-welcome in a backcountry skiing program in Apuseni Mountains, one of the wildest areas in Romania. For the first three days you’ll stay in Baisoara Resort, located at the foot of “Muntele Mare” (the Big Mountain) - the third peak in height from Apuseni Mountains; a real winter paradise: impressive pine trees loaded with snow for quiet walks, joyful skiing or sledging tracks, not to mention the warm and welcoming atmosphere of a typical Transylvanian village, old peasant houses with rich wooden architecture in an interesting contrast with modern cabanas and villas.

In Baisoara Resort you’ll be tempted with some interesting skiing route of 10-15 km, at a level difference of 200-800 m, which will introduce you to the area. A fascinating highlight is the Natural Reservation “Scarita Belioara” with its interesting and intricate stone formations and the huge precipice, supposed to be a fairy citadel. The fascinating scenery of “Pietrele Marunte” (Small Stones – see by yourself just how small they are!) will charm you. A place full of mystery - Huda lui Papara Cave – do you remember the history of Pied Piper, the magic flute singer? It is believed that Huda lui Papară communicates with that cave in Germany in which Pied Piper hid the children from Hameln, Germany.

Vagabond ski in Eastern Europe
Your decent 2 star accommodation is situated at an altitude of 1380 m, on the top of a ridge, offering a truly breath-taking view over the entire area.
Your next destination is the traditional “Motzesc” village of Arieseni. You’ll accommodate in a 3 star facility. The skiing routes of 18-20 km, at a level difference of 500-800 m will lead you to the biggest glacier in Eastern Europe - Scarisoara Glacier. A real winter adventure – a horse sledge will carry you up to the ice cave! Be amazed by the biggest ground slide in Romania - Rusty Pit and conquer the highest peak of Apuseni Mountains - Cucurbata Mare (1847 m).

How about lunch in a genuine peasant house? Taste the usual lunch of a “motz” – your host will be more than glad to prepare something really traditional such as fresh cow cheese, “mamaliga” and bacon with onion. The cuisine of this area is worthy of your attention: don’t miss the “balmosh” – traditional Transylvanian speciality - shepherds’ recipe and worm yourself with some boiled wine with cinnamon, Count Dracula himself recommends it! If you think you can manage, accept the locals’ invitation for a tzuica- Romanians’ water of fire – the winter recipe includes pepper, the tzuica is boiled and served quite hot! A special dinner with folk show will reveal the beauty of the Transylvanian folklore. A carpet of pine trees branches will be at your feet, delicious dishes on your table and good music for your ears!
Winter in TransylvaniaIsn’t winter great?

Optional: snowboard or ATVs’ can be rented in Baisoara; if you feel tired due to the touring ski we can provide you with the possibility of a relaxing day on a ski track fitted with teleski in Baisoara and Arieseni.
